Tracy's Sanctuary Fanfiction Research

Blog

This is where I can keep you updated with the latest research musings and questions going on related to my fanfiction research. Not that I need another blog to maintain, but this is in the interest of keeping things centralised.

Basically, this is somewhere I can crosspost relevant LJ entries, muse about things whilst doing the research, ask questions and toy with ideas. It's basically a place for me to put the work in progress or bits and pieces that will probably not be any use except for in the context of one, single piece of fiction (for example, research into polyamory as a lifestyle choice).

So, for the first blog entry, I'm just going to (For my piece of mind), make a "to do" list of the areas I still need to upload on the site.

Architecture: Terminology for churches and castles, typical Victorian architectural styles, architecture in Rome. Eventually I may need to add more styles, but this is a starting point.

Montague John Druitt: Information on the Whitechapel murders, including real victims and suspected victims (in historical fact there are only 5 confirmed victims murdered in autumn 1888. In the series, he had already killed 7 by April, so these need reconciling somehow). Information on the "Dear Boss" letters and about Blackheath School. A guide to BP debating for other users.

James Watson: History of the fictional character, useful links, information on Scotland Yard (cross reference of Ripper case) and some info on important laws such as City of London / City of Westminster.

Victorian Fashion: Detailed analysis of trends such as first bustle era, natural form, second bustle era, evolution of children's fashion, national dress in Serbia / Croatia for Nikola. Hair and makeup in the 1800s. I am waiting on a costuming book which I will use to sketch and provide images and reference points.

Victorian Lifestyle: Sewage systems in London, development of sanitation and hygeine awareness. Etiquette at dinner parties and social events. Childcare and Christmas traditions.

I think those are my immediate concerns for updates... but seeing as I'm currently writing and organising the fic awards as well, it may be a little while before I realise all these aims!
